"Music has always played a big part in my life. I've played the bass for 10 years ands and in a boys' choir for two years when I lived in Kankakee," said Senior Andrew Lanthrum, bassist of new local band, Troubled Hubble.

The band which consists of three other members, Kaneland graduates drummer/guitarist Nate Lanthrum and Guitarist Josh Miller, and Batavia graduate guitarist/drummer Chris Otepka.

Lanthrum took up the bass when he was seven and has had previous band experience. Other members have also had exposure. Nate and Miller are still currently in local band Triple Jet Charlie.

Lanthrum's influences, along with his brother Nate's, stem from their life in "inner-city Kankakee," where they listened to "hard-core, old school hip-hop," said Lanthrum. Miller, however, grew up listening to Winger, "which is where he stole his guitar style," said Lanthrum, and Otepka gained his musical knowledge from the only two records he owned. "Michael Jackson's Thriller, and the Chipmunk's Christmas," said Otepka.

The band was developed when "Chris found out about an opening to play at a show in Chicago, but he had no band. So, a week before the show, he recruited Nate, Josh, and myself. We make up six songs," said Lanthrum."People really liked us for some reason. One guy wanted us to play more in Chicago and another invited us to come record in his studio."

The band has just finish producing a CD at Cadence Studio in Naperville last weekend. The CD features 6 full-length original songs, developed "by the band as a whole," said Lanthrum. Look for the CD to be our in one or two months, he added.
